SK Hynix (KRX:000660) plans to build a memory chip plant in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, the Hankyoreh newspaper reported Friday, citing industry sources.

The Japanese chipmaker will invest tens of trillions of won for the new fab, expanding its production capacity, the report said.

An SK Hynix representative, in an email reply to MT Newswires' request for comment, said that any location with the necessary infrastructure could be a potential candidate, but added that nothing has been decided yet.
