$NVIDIA(NVDA)$

Nvidia will invest US$1.5 billion in SoftBank-backed SB Energy and secure up to 8 gigawatts of AI computing capacity at an Ohio campus being built by the data centre developer for OpenAI.

The deal is the latest where Nvidia is financing the ecosystem consuming its chips, a strategy that has helped fuel demand but also drawn scrutiny over the circular flows of funds from the chipmaker to its biggest customers.

Leading tech firms are increasingly tying together chips, power and data centre development as they race to secure the infrastructure needed for increasingly power-hungry AI models.

Nvidia Moves Optics Into the Package — Marvell +5.5%, Who Gets Left Behind?
Optics was Monday's theme: AXT +17.55%, Marvell +5.54%, Applied Optoelectronics +3.07%, HTGD +1.75%. Nvidia said its CPO-based Spectrum-X Photonics switch is in mass production, claiming 5x network power efficiency and 10x mean time between failures versus pluggable optics — CPO moving from validation to deployment, repricing everything from lasers to switch chips. The catch: CPO at scale takes share from pluggable modules, so the chain splits. Coherent beat and raised, then fell 7.99% the next day. HTGD reports interim results Friday. AXT, Marvell, AAOI, or HTGD?

Does that 8GW really show up on time though? Power and buildout delays feel way underpriced here

NVIDIA has reportedly informed several of its largest customers that server systems equipped with its artificial intelligence chips will see price increases of more than 15%, driven by a sharp rise in memory chip costs.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the price adjustment will apply to systems scheduled for shipment early next year, including those built around the flagship Vera Rubin and Grace Blackwell processors. The sources, who requested anonymity because the discussions have not been made public, indicated that the exact scale of the increase will vary depending on the generation of NVIDIA chips and the memory configuration involved.

Companies that manufacture servers on behalf of major data center operators such as Microsoft, Google's parent company Alphabet, and Oracle have recently alerted their clients to the impending price rise. NVIDIA representatives have not yet responded to requests for comment.

Even NVIDIA, the most dominant player in the industry, cannot maintain its original pricing or absorb the rising costs on its own. This situation underscores the significant bargaining power held by memory chip makers, including Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron, especially against the backdrop of surging demand for AI infrastructure.

Other major technology companies, such as Apple and Qualcomm, have also recently acknowledged that chip shortages have forced them to raise the prices of their products.
