I. Three Focus Points This Week
🔸 Focus 1: Fed Chair Warsh delivers keynote remarks at the Jackson Hole symposium on 28 August
The Federal Reserve Board's August calendar shows that Chairman Kevin Warsh will deliver keynote remarks at the 2026 Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium in Moran, Wyoming, on 28 August at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time; the Trading Economics calendar lists the symposium as running from 27 to 29 August. The July core PCE price index is released the same week, on 26 August, with a previous reading of 3.3% year on year and a market forecast of 3.3%.
As retrieved on 24 August, Investing.com showed the 10-year Treasury yield at 4.714%, the 30-year at 5.254% and the US Dollar Index at 98.928, with gold futures at 4,698.54 and silver at 68.898. Reuters reported on 24 August, in "Bond market anxiety raises stakes for Warsh's debut Jackson Hole speech", that this is Warsh's first appearance at the symposium as Chair. An Investing.com report published on 21 August said gold gained more than 5% over the week and stood at a three-month high, attributing the move to a softer dollar and a sell-off in bonds.
🔸 Focus 2: AI compute and enterprise software companies report earnings between 24 and 27 August
According to the Trading Economics earnings calendar, 13 AI compute and enterprise software companies report this week, including Palo Alto Networks (24 August), Intuit (25 August), CrowdStrike, Salesforce and Synopsys (26 August), and Workday, Autodesk and MongoDB (27 August). Nvidia reports after the US close on 26 August and is the largest company reporting this week by market value: a market capitalisation of USD 4.78 trillion, a revenue consensus of USD 91.73 billion (USD 46.7 billion a year earlier) and an EPS consensus of USD 2.08 (USD 1.04 a year earlier).
As retrieved on 24 August, Investing.com showed Nvidia at 214.72 (-0.98%), the Nasdaq Composite at 26,180.46 and the VIX at 15.92. Investing.com published "Citi expects Nvidia stock to trade higher post earnings" on 23 August; a report on the same site on 24 August set out Wolfe's view that AI-related spending may come under pressure from rising yields.
🔸 Focus 3: The US is expected to announce a new round of sanctions on Iran, with two regular energy releases due this week
Reuters reported on 24 August, in "Oil falls ahead of US announcement of new sanctions on Iran", that prices slipped by more than a dollar a barrel on Monday as investors took profits ahead of the announcement. A separate Reuters report the same day, "Iran threatens 45 tankers with fines, confiscation in Hormuz escalation", said Iran had threatened 45 tankers with fines and confiscation, while another report noted Iran had allowed some Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
As retrieved on 24 August, Investing.com showed Brent crude at 91.33 (-1.45%) and WTI crude at 85.47 (-1.83%); a report on the same site on 21 August said Brent had gained 12% over two weeks. Regular releases tied to this theme this week: EIA crude oil stocks on 26 August (previous +4.405 million barrels) and the Baker Hughes oil rig count on 28 August (previous 452 rigs).
II. Three Areas in Focus This Week
The three areas below correspond to the three focus points above. All content is a compilation of publicly available information. Each area lists two related products: one exchange-traded ETF listed on a US or Hong Kong exchange, and one off-exchange mutual fund.
How the products are selected
For each focus point we first identify the theme it belongs to, then list the largest exchange-traded ETF and the largest off-exchange mutual fund within the scope most closely matching that theme. Off-exchange funds are limited to USD or SGD share classes available in the Singapore market. ETF size figures are taken from public ETF data pages and mutual fund size figures from each fund's published monthly factsheet.
