#HBM Shortage Is Getting Real โ€” But Can the Memory Super-Cycle Last? ๐Ÿ’พ๐Ÿ“ˆ

The memory trade is getting harder to ignore.

HBM demand remains tied closely to AI accelerator growth, while tighter supply is starting to push pricing pressure into the broader memory market. But this is where I think investors need to separate higher quotes from sustainable earnings growth.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Bull case

AI infrastructure spending keeps accelerating โ†’ HBM demand stays tight โ†’ DRAM/NAND pricing improves โ†’ margins expand โ†’ memory companies generate stronger cash flow.

๐Ÿ“‰ Bear case

A lot of the good news may already be reflected in valuations. If supply catches up, AI spending slows, or pricing momentum fades, memory stocks could re-rate quickly.

What makes this interesting is the recent divergence across the sector. Some memory names are holding up better than others, suggesting investors may already be looking beyond the headline shortage and focusing on who has the strongest pricing power and margins.

For me, Micronโ€™s Sept. 30 earnings is the next major checkpoint. Iโ€™ll be watching HBM demand, DRAM/NAND pricing, margins and forward guidance.

The key question isnโ€™t whether memory prices can rise.

Itโ€™s whether they can stay high long enough to create a genuine earnings super-cycle. ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿ’ฌ If you were positioning for the next leg, would you focus on HBM, DRAM, NAND โ€” or wait for Micronโ€™s earnings confirmation?

Memory Prices Up Over 500% โ€” Does That Still Count as Good News?
Memory rallied Thursday on a line from Intel's CEO: memory prices are up more than 500%. Micron +5.50% to $977.50, SanDisk +6.21% to $1,614.39, SK Hynix +4.64% to $182.99. Intel led them all, +7.67% to $108.80, on a second day of the SK Hynix foundry reports, which several outlets say is still not a deal. Wednesday the foundry rose 4% and memory sat still; Thursday memory caught up. Worth noting who said it. The 500% is a buyer describing what it now pays, not a seller reporting what it now earns. Same sentence, read as a cost complaint and as a bull case. Which is it?

HBM shortage looks real, but Micron guidance after Sept. 30 is the cleaner read. Tight pricing matters less if forward demand and margins stop improving.
