The Best Way to Stop Selling Stocks Too Early

Everything but price. 👀

My non-financial-advice advice if you have a habit of selling stocks too early:

Stop watching the price.

I know that sounds strange. 😅

But the “money burning a hole in your pocket” syndrome is incredibly common.

You get into a position.

It turns green. 🟢

Then you watch that profit grow… and suddenly every little pullback feels painful.

A stock goes from +12% to +9% and your brain starts thinking:

“Maybe I should just take it.”

So you sell.

Then the stock keeps running without you. 🤦‍♂️

The problem is that watching price — especially on lower timeframes — creates a TON of noise.

And most of that noise has nothing to do with the original thesis.

So here’s what I do:

Once I’m in a position, it’s green, and I have a trailing stop in place, I stop looking at the actual stock price. 🚫📈

I’ll still follow:

📰 News
🔎 Company updates
📊 New data
🧠 The original thesis
👀 Anything that could fundamentally change my view

But I hide the price from my watchlist.

Why?

Because price is the one thing most likely to mess with your head.

If the thesis is still intact and the trailing stop hasn’t been triggered, I don’t need to react to every 1% or 2% move.

My stop handles the downside.

My research tells me whether the thesis is still alive.

And if the stock keeps moving higher?

I get to stay in and catch more of the move. 🎯

It may sound strange to watch everything about a stock except the stock price.

But sometimes removing the most distracting piece of information is exactly what helps you hold the position you already decided you wanted. 🧘‍♂️📈

Markets are always moving - and sometimes, the best move is knowing what works for you.

With Treasury yields, oil prices and rate expectations keeping markets on edge this week, investors are once again thinking carefully about where to position next.
