Netflix’s biggest challenge isn’t profitability; it’s proving its next growth engine can offset weakening user engagement.
Revenue is expected to reach $12.87 billion, up 11.8% year over year. Advertising revenue, pricing power and live programming offer upside. However, US churn reportedly rose 16.6% year over year in Q3, while app downloads in the US and Canada fell 20%. Competition from YouTube and short-form video is becoming harder to ignore.
I expect earnings could meet or slightly beat expectations, but that alone may not trigger a sustained rally. Investors will focus on forward guidance, advertising monetization and whether Netflix can reignite engagement. Recent layoffs and content leadership changes add uncertainty.
My verdict: C. Unless management delivers a convincing growth outlook, a sharp post-earnings breakout looks difficult to justify. Netflix needs to prove viewers are staying, not just paying.
