President Donald Trump on August 18 endorsed Mike Mazzei for governor of Oklahoma, calling him a "MAGA Warrior" and attacking his runoff opponent, Gentner Drummond. Trump claimed he was the only president to win all 77 counties in Oklahoma in three consecutive elections, and that he received more votes than any candidate in the state's history.
Trump described Drummond as a "FAKE Republican" who donated to President Joe Biden and the "Lincoln Project," a group Trump called "totally corrupt and anti-American." He cited the Lincoln Project's founder John Weaver, who sent unsolicited sexually provocative messages to 21 young men and a 14-year-old boy, and Steve Schmidt, a "total loser" who supported the project. Trump said Drummond and his wife Wendy supported these groups at "shameful" levels, making them "Radical Left Dumocrats."
The president also criticized Drummond's opposition to a new aluminum plant in Inola, Oklahoma, which Trump said would be "the Biggest Aluminum Plant in the Country" and create jobs, lower taxes, and fund schools. Trump noted that the project is fully financed, and if not approved in Oklahoma, the group has 20 alternative sites. He emphasized national security, saying the U.S. lacks aluminum production.
Additionally, Trump highlighted Drummond's public statement of having "no opinion" on the impeachment of President Trump, which Trump called a "BOGUS IMPEACHMENT," and Drummond's lawsuit to block a religious-based charter school supported by the Trump administration. Trump concluded by urging voters to support Mazzei in the August 25 runoff, saying, "MIKE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!"
