Trump: University of Miami donates 1994 Ibogaine IND to accelerate treatment for veterans

Trump's Truth Social latest posts08-19

President Donald Trump announced on August 18 that the University of Miami has donated its original 1994 Ibogaine Investigational New Drug (IND) application to the federal government, a move he said will accelerate the development of psychedelic therapies for veterans with serious mental illness.

In April, Trump signed an executive order to accelerate medical treatments for serious mental illness, specifically psychedelic drugs including ibogaine. The president noted that the drug has helped many veterans and American heroes who were with him and Joe Rogan in the Oval Office.

"Today I am announcing that Secretary Kennedy has received a Historic Gift from the University of Miami, who has given the Federal Government its original 1994 Ibogaine Investigational New Drug application. This will give everyone direct access to the foundational FDA authorization to accelerate its development as a medical treatment in the U.S.," Trump wrote on X.

The announcement builds on what Trump described as "INCREDIBLE PROGRESS" since April, including HHS research funding, collaboration between HHS and the Department of Veterans Affairs, and FDA guidance. The president emphasized that veterans with serious mental illness should have a "RIGHT TO TRY" ibogaine in the United States and called on more companies and institutions to join the effort.
