President Donald Trump announced on social media platform X on September 18 that the United States has entered into an agreement with Denmark and Greenland that gives the U.S. permanent control over security and all other needs in Greenland, at no cost to the United States.
Trump described the agreement as an 'Infinite Life' agreement with no end date. He stated that, from now on, no U.S. adversary can have a base, military presence, or make sensitive investments in Greenland without express written approval. The president said the deal 'permanently and conclusively' addresses strategic concerns that previous administrations had failed to resolve for over 100 years.
Trump said the U.S. will immediately begin developing a large military presence in appropriate parts of Greenland. He added that the agreement is 'a great one for the United States of America, Denmark, Greenland, and all of our Allies' and called it 'a dream come true for the United States of America.'
