Novartis (NVS) said Friday that results from two phase 3 trials in relapsing multiple sclerosis showed that remibrutinib reduced the relapse rate and delivered a clinically meaningful delay in disease progression compared with teriflunomide.
The company said the primary endpoint of both trials was met, with reductions in annualized relapse rates of 35.2% and 31.2%, translating to about one relapse every 13 years.
Remibrutinib also reduced disease activity based on MRI scans and achieved a delay in disability progression, with over 92% of patients remaining free from disease progression over 24 months as assessed by 6-month confirmed disability progression, Novartis said.
Across both trials, remibrutinib showed no liver safety signal, the company added.
Novartis said it plans to seek regulatory approval for remibrutinib in relapsing multiple sclerosis globally.
