On October 26, President Donald Trump used X to attack HBO host Bill Maher, reject appearing on Maher’s show, and claim CNN polls show 98–99% support for him within the Republican Party.
Trump said Maher and associate Chuck LaBella repeatedly sought meetings with him and that he hosted two dinners at the White House, which he said lasted about two hours. He derided HBO as “low rated,” accused Maher of using a “laugh machine,” and touted NBC’s The Apprentice as “Number One and Top Rated” for many weeks.
“CNN just came out with a Poll showing that I’m at 98 and 99% support within the Republican Party, an All Time Record High.” He also cited CNN in claiming Ronald Reagan was at 86% and said CNN’s Harry Enten called him “The Most Influential President of the Last Century.” Trump further claimed a CNN poll on the “most popular person in the history of the Republican Party” put him at 53%, with Ronald Reagan at 18% and Abraham Lincoln at 8%.
Trump denied plans to build a swimming pool in the White House briefing room and said he may relocate the press to use the space. He asserted his endorsement record is 98% in the House and 100% in the Senate, praised Karoline Leavitt’s appearance on Maher’s show, and alleged California recently found 20,000 illegal voters, saying the number could exceed 1,000,000. He added he will not do Maher’s show.
