🪙 Tiger Coins | 🚨 The Next AI Earnings Test: Can Palantir and AMD Prove the Trade Still Works?

1.Executive Summary

Last week's Magnificent 7 earnings delivered a brutal verdict: $Microsoft(MSFT)$ and $Amazon.com(AMZN)$surged (+8% and +10%) on evidence their AI spend is paying off, while Meta, Apple, and Alphabet were punished (-10%, -4%, -15%) for spending without showing proof. This week, two more high-profile names face the exact same test — $Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$ reports today, August 3, after market close, and $Advanced Micro Devices(AMD)$ follows tomorrow, August 4.

  • Palantir Q2 Consensus: $1.812B revenue (+81% YoY), $0.34–0.35 EPS (+119% YoY)

  • Options-Implied Move: Up to ±10%, equivalent to ~$31.6B in market cap

  • AMD Focus: Updates on MI450 chip and Helios production — its AI-chip competitive story

📌 Key Insight: After last week proved that "spending on AI" alone no longer moves stocks, this week is the follow-through test — can $Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$ and $Advanced Micro Devices(AMD)$ show the market actual proof, not just promises?

📌 Institutional Take: The bar has shifted — beating estimates is no longer enough on its own; the market now wants evidence the AI spend converts into real returns.

3.Palantir: A Valuation Under the Microscope

$Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$'s stock has run up so far that expectations are now steep: 81% revenue growth is the bar, not the ceiling. The company already raised its own full-year US commercial revenue guidance to above $3.224B — meaning it now needs almost $1B in commercial revenue each remaining quarter just to stay on track. At a price-to-sales ratio near 61x, even a solid quarter could disappoint if guidance doesn't match the hype. Options traders are pricing in a swing of up to 10% either direction tonight.

📌 Key Insight: The real focus may not be whether Palantir beats its numbers — it's whether its forward guidance justifies its already-rich valuation.

4.AMD: The Hardware Side of the Same Question

$Advanced Micro Devices(AMD)$ reports tomorrow, and the market's attention will center on one specific product line: its MI450 AI chip and Helios production progress. As a key rival to Nvidia in the AI chip race, AMD's report is less about the topline and more about whether its newest chip is gaining real commercial traction.

5.What Investors Should Watch Next

  • Whether Palantir's Q3 guidance matches its already-elevated full-year targets

  • MI450 chip traction and production updates from AMD

  • Whether the market extends last week's "proof over promise" standard to both companies

  • SanDisk's earnings midweek — the first pure-play NAND report since its 53% pullback from highs

6.Trading Psychology

The lesson from last week wasn't subtle: in this market, spending on AI isn't the story anymore — proving it works is. Palantir and AMD are the next two companies to sit that exam. Neither has to just beat a number. They have to convince Wall Street the story behind the number is real.

📌 The market has stopped grading on participation. This week, it wants proof.

Share your view on one of these questions:

  • Are you holding Palantir or AMD through this earnings report, or waiting on the sidelines?

  • Do you think the market's "proof over promise" bar is fair, or is it being too harsh on AI spenders too early in the cycle?

  • Between software/AI-analytics plays (like Palantir) and AI-chip hardware plays (like AMD), which do you think has more room to run?

  • After Meta, Apple, and Alphabet all got punished last week, would you buy the dip on any of them — or wait for more proof first?

I'm holding my $Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$ shares through earnings and have no intention of selling. I've been a diamond-hand investor because I believe the company is still in the early stages of a much bigger AI growth story. While expectations are high, Palantir has consistently delivered, and I'm looking forward to another strong earnings report.

For me, the key isn't just beating estimates. I'll be watching guidance, customer growth, and whether AI adoption continues driving larger commercial contracts and stronger cash flow. If management delivers another quarter of solid execution, my long-term conviction will only grow stronger.

As for AMD, I also expect a good quarter, but market expectations are extremely high. In today's market, guidance matters more than the headline numbers. I'm staying bullish on both companies over the long term and letting fundamentals—not short-term volatility—guide my decisions.
