SG Morning Call | Singapore Stocks Open Mixed Thursday; STI Edges Up 0.09%, AEM SGD Surges Nearly 8%

Singapore stocks opened mixed on Thursday, with the Straits Times Index (STI) edging up 0.09%.
On the upside, $AEM SGD(AWX.SI)$ surged nearly 8%, while UMS climbed over 2%. On the downside, UOL fell more than 2%, and both JMH USD and Singtel declined by over 1%. OCBC Bank dipped 0.6%.
Stocks in Focus
The following companies saw new developments that may affect trading of their securities on Thursday (Aug 13):
$Singtel(Z74.SI)$: The telco on Thursday reported a 71.6 per cent fall in first-quarter net profit to S$818 million. It attributed the decline to exceptional gains from the sale of a partial stake in Airtel and the Intouch-Gulf Energy merger in the same quarter last year. Underlying net profit, on the other hand, is up 21 per cent at S$831 million, driven by Airtel, AIS, NCS, Optus and its Digital InfraCo arm. Shares of Singtel fell 0.5 per cent or S$0.02 to S$4.29 after the market closed on Wednesday.
$ST Engineering(S63.SI)$ On Thursday, the company posted a 27.1 per cent rise in net profit to S$512.1 million for its first half ended Jun 30, from S$402.8 million in the previous corresponding period. This was mainly due to growth across all its business segments. Shares of ST Engineering closed S$0.08 or 0.78 per cent higher at S$10.28 on Wednesday.
$Wilmar Intl(F34.SI)$: The agribusiness on Wednesday reported a net profit of US$608.9 million for its H1 ended Jun 30, up 2.3 per cent from US$594.9 million for the year-ago period. The group attributed this to stronger performance in the food, feed and industrial products segments. Shares of Wilmar closed 0.5 per cent or S$0.02 lower at S$3.94 on Wednesday, before the results were announced.
$CapitaLandInvest(9CI.SI)$: The company recorded a 14 per cent increase in net profit to S$327 million for H1 this year, driven by stronger fee income from its fund management platforms. Operating net profit – which excludes portfolio gains, unrealised revaluations and impairments – rose 13 per cent year on year to S$293 million, from S$260 million previously. Revenue for the six-month period fell 2 per cent to about S$1.02 billion, it said on Thursday. Shares of CLI rose 0.4 per cent to close S$0.01 higher at S$2.73 on Wednesday.
$Sembcorp Ind(U96.SI)$: The energy and urban solutions provider on Thursday said its net profit for its H1 ended Jun 30 tumbled 72 per cent to S$150 million, hit by one-off acquisition costs. Excluding exceptional items, deferred payment note foreign-exchange effects, and fair-value changes on energy derivatives, underlying net profit for H1 FY2026 fell 25 per cent to S$369 million. Sembcorp shares rose 1.1 per cent to close S$0.06 higher at S$5.72 on Wednesday.
$UOL(U14.SI)$: The property developer on Wednesday posted a 23 per cent year-on-year increase in net profit to S$252.2 million for its H1 ended Jun 30, from S$205.5 million. This was driven mainly by a higher share of profits from joint venture property developments and net fair-value gains on investment properties. Earnings per share for H1 rose to S$0.2980, from S$0.2433 a share in the same period a year prior. Shares of UOL Group ended 2.4 per cent or S$0.24 higher at S$10.17 on Wednesday, before the results release.
$CityDev(C09.SI)$: The property developer on Thursday said it trebled its net profit for its H1 ended Jun 30 to S$301.6 million, driven by a robust performance in its property development segment. Revenue for the half year grew 61.1 per cent to S$2.72 billion, from S$1.69 billion in H1 FY2025. The board declared a tax-exempt one-tier interim dividend of S$0.06 a share, double the S$0.03 a share declared for the year-ago period. Shares of CDL rose 0.5 per cent to close S$0.40 higher at S$7.86 on Wednesday.
$AEM SGD(AWX.SI)$: The semiconductor test-equipment maker posted a net profit of S$31 million for the half year ended Jun 30, it said on Wednesday. This was up from S$3.1 million in the previous corresponding period, and came on the back of stronger demand for its test equipment from artificial intelligence chipmakers. The growth was driven by the company’s fabless AI and high performance computing customer. Shares of AEM rose 0.9 per cent S$0.09 to S$9.63 on Wednesday, before the announcement.
