Why Is Crypto Up Today? Bitcoin Hits $71k as Ethereum Surges Past $2,300

Bitcoin has managed to push closer to the psychological $70,000 level after reclaiming $69,000. Meanwhile, Ethereum has jumped above $2,300 and is outperforming Bitcoin on a percentage basis. The question is now whether crypto is back indeed or just a relief rally has returned with a vengeance.

Improved liquidity expectations, regulatory optimism, ETF demand and short liquidations have given the market a much-needed boost, but Bitcoin and Ethereum are still significantly below their previous cycle highs.

Bitcoin Price Surges Toward $70K: What Is Driving the Rally?

Bitcoin price is back in focus after

BTC

$62,630.00

broke through key levels that had previously restrained the price. The rapid rise has caused bears to flee and momentum buyers to jump in.

While the confluence of liquidity, sentiment, and leverage is not enough to suggest the start of a new bull market, it has made Bitcoin $70K one of the most anticipated levels in the short term.

Bitcoin Reclaims $69,000 for the First Time in Months

Bitcoin’s return above $69,000 suggests a positive change in the short-term structure. After being confined to a lower range for weeks, BTC has resumed its march higher and is now testing the next barrier.

A close above the psychologically important level will make Bitcoin 70,000 a support level, so multiple failures to hold it would see the price return to the $66,000-$67,000 area.

Short Liquidations Amplify Bitcoin’s Move Higher

The Bitcoin rally has been fueled by short liquidations. When the price of BTC rises rapidly, leveraged short sellers may be forced to buy back the cryptocurrency to limit their losses. This buying pressure can propel the price higher and lead to further liquidations.

The rally will gain credibility if spot buyers and ETF demand remain strong after the short squeeze. However, if buying dries up, Bitcoin could retreat quickly.

Why Is Bitcoin Rising Today?

The reason why Bitcoin is rising today involves a confluence of liquidity, regulatory optimism, ETF demand, and short liquidations. It is a healthier catalyst than mere leverage-driven speculation, but the new bullish trend has yet to be confirmed.

U.S. Treasury Buybacks Improve Market Liquidity

One catalyst for the recent improvement in liquidity was the announcement that the U.S. Treasury will increase its buybacks of longer-dated securities. The aim is to improve market functionality and liquidity in the Treasury market.

While it was not directly quantitative easing, the improved expectations for long-dated bond markets will ease conditions for risk assets. This development has indirect benefits for crypto markets.

Trump’s Crypto Push Adds Another Catalyst

The improving risk sentiment is also being fueled by the pro-crypto rhetoric from President Donald Trump and the regulatory clarity that his policies are set to deliver. Lawmakers are also working on a framework that would govern digital assets and token offerings.
