$Amazon.com(AMZN)$ The Decart acquisition financial impact is really about eliminating NVDA's CUDA software moat. Developers can now switch over to AWS Trainium chips in a matter of weeks without rewriting their software stacks, and the same applies to Google TPU.
This yields a 20-30% increase in gross margins for AWS compared to using third-party chips, and accelerates customer adoption of Trainium. On a $160B run rate for Trainium chips, even a 10% conversion equals $16B, or $2.5B in annual gross profit expansion, which means payback in 2-3 years.
Customers see 3-4x savings on compute rental rates and 2-3x savings per billion token rates. The benefit was always there, but now the barrier is gone. It is already running on Trainium 3, so there is real-world proof of portability and savings.
The other benefits around internal workloads, retail Prime, and robotics simulation are less significant in dollar terms but strategically valuable. For a $6-7B price tag, it looks like a no-brainer.
