$Apple(AAPL)$ Apple's HomeView Ultra with a robotic arm is reportedly set to launch in 2028 at around $1,000. The hardware has apparently been ready for two years, but the software team has been pushing back the launch while they fine-tune some AI and home automation features, according to The Information.
The first HomeView smart home display is just now shipping, but rumors about a larger model with a robotic arm are already stacking up. Bloomberg previously pointed to a 2027 or 2028 release, and The Information added more detail, suggesting Apple could announce it in 2027 and start shipping in 2028 at an estimated $1,000. Both outlets say the arm-equipped HomeView is internally codenamed J595. It would have a 9-inch display that swivels on the robotic arm and uses sensors to follow you around during FaceTime calls.
The hardware reportedly resembles an articulated desk lamp, similar to the one in Pixar's logo. The software side is what's holding things up, with the team working on features like turning on a light when someone enters a room. On pricing, The Information expects it to come in around $1,000, well above the $299 Apple announced for the first HomeView. Some former Apple employees told the outlet the higher-end model could be branded "HomeView Ultra." Given that $700 gap, it'll be interesting to see what the Ultra actually adds.
The standard HomeView comes in two versions: one with a 7-inch display on top of a speaker, and another that's just the wall-mountable display. Both can play music, handle FaceTime calls, work as a smart home dashboard, and respond to queries through Siri. A recent code leak also hints they could eventually double as indoor home security cameras.
