Palantir’s Revenue Nearly Doubles: Is This Just the Beginning of Its AI Growth Story?
$Palantir(PLTR)$ Q3 Earnings Mark a Major Turning Point: AI Commercial Demand Is Changing the Business
Palantir Technologies has delivered another exceptional quarterly performance, reinforcing its position as one of the major beneficiaries of the AI adoption cycle. But there is something particularly important about this latest report that deserves more attention than simply looking at the headline revenue growth.
For the first time in the company’s history, US commercial revenue has surpassed US government revenue.
This is significant because Palantir was traditionally known for providing data analytics and software solutions to government agencies, intelligence organisations and the military. Its commercial business is now becoming an increasingly important growth engine, suggesting that its AI platform is gaining traction well beyond its traditional customer base.
1. Revenue Growth Is Accelerating
Palantir reported Q3 revenue of $2.313 billion, representing an impressive 96% year-over-year increase. This exceeded analyst expectations of approximately $2.18 billion.
The company also reported adjusted EPS of $0.44, up approximately 95% from a year earlier.
What stands out is the consistency of its growth. Palantir has managed to sustain exceptionally high revenue growth while expanding its profitability.
Its adjusted operating income reached approximately $1.43 billion, representing a 62% margin. Adjusted free cash flow was approximately $1.22 billion, with a 53% margin.
These numbers are important because they demonstrate that Palantir is not simply growing revenue by spending aggressively. It is also converting a substantial portion of that growth into cash.
2. Commercial AI Is Becoming the Bigger Story
The most interesting development was the performance of its US commercial business.
US commercial revenue increased 148% year over year to $984 million, compared with US government revenue of $953 million, which grew 96%.
This is a major milestone.
Palantir’s Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP) helps businesses integrate AI models into their existing operations, allowing them to analyse data, automate workflows and support business decisions.
Many companies have experimented with AI, but moving from experimentation to actual business deployment is considerably more difficult.
This is where Palantir sees its opportunity.
Businesses need more than access to powerful AI models. They need systems that can connect those models to internal data, existing processes and operational decisions while maintaining appropriate security and control.
Palantir is positioning itself as the platform that helps bridge that gap.
If this demand continues, its commercial business could become a much larger contributor to revenue over the coming years.
3. Government Revenue Still Provides an Important Foundation
Although commercial revenue has taken the lead, government contracts remain an important part of Palantir’s business.
US government revenue grew 96% year over year to $953 million.
Defence, intelligence and national security organisations increasingly need sophisticated data analysis and AI capabilities. These customers also tend to require highly specialised systems, security standards and long-term relationships.
This creates an opportunity for Palantir to benefit from two different sources of demand.
Commercial customers are looking for productivity improvements, automation and better decision-making, while government customers are investing in defence, intelligence and operational capabilities.
Having both markets gives Palantir exposure to a broader range of AI applications.
4. Management Raises Full-Year Guidance Significantly
Perhaps the strongest confirmation of management’s confidence is the substantial upward revision to its financial outlook.
Palantir now expects full-year 2026 revenue of approximately $8.53 billion to $8.534 billion.
That represents roughly 91% year-over-year growth.
The company also expects fourth-quarter revenue of approximately $2.65 billion, comfortably above Wall Street’s previous expectations of around $2.46 billion.
A guidance increase of this magnitude suggests management is seeing continued demand rather than relying entirely on the strength of one exceptional quarter.
For investors, forward guidance is often just as important as historical results because it provides an indication of whether current growth can be sustained.
5. The Risk: Can Its Valuation Keep Up With Its Growth?
Despite the impressive numbers, I would not ignore the risks.
Palantir has become one of the more expensive software stocks in the market. Even when revenue grows close to 100%, investors still need to consider how much future growth is already reflected in the share price.
There is also an important detail in the commercial bookings figures. US commercial total contract value growth slowed sharply to approximately 11% year over year, compared with more than 153% in the previous quarter.
This deserves attention.
Revenue growth remains exceptionally strong, but bookings can provide an indication of future demand. Investors should monitor whether this slowdown is temporary, reflects the timing and size of contracts, or signals that new customer commitments are becoming less predictable.
Competition is another consideration. Large technology companies and specialist AI providers are all competing for enterprise AI spending.
Palantir needs to demonstrate that its platform can maintain its competitive advantage as the AI software market becomes increasingly crowded.
My Investment Takeaway
I think the most important part of this earnings report is the changing composition of Palantir’s revenue.
The company is no longer relying primarily on its government relationships to drive growth. Its commercial AI business is expanding rapidly, and the fact that US commercial revenue has overtaken government revenue represents an important milestone.
The combination of 96% revenue growth, strong operating margins, substantial free cash flow and higher full-year guidance makes this an impressive earnings report.
However, excellent business performance does not automatically make a stock attractive at every price.
For me, the next things to watch are commercial customer growth, new contract bookings, revenue retention and whether Palantir can maintain its margins as it scales.
The bigger AI investment opportunity may increasingly shift from companies providing the computing infrastructure to companies that help businesses turn AI capabilities into measurable economic value.
Palantir is making a strong case that it belongs in that conversation. The remaining question is how much investors should be willing to pay for that growth.
