🐶 Why Selling a Protective Covered Call on PLTR Is Important

Selling a covered call is one of my favourite ways to manage risk while holding shares of a company I believe in.

For my PLTR position, I am selling the 20 November 2026 $180 CALL. My objective is not simply to collect option premiums, but also to create an additional income stream while managing my existing shares.

💰 1️⃣ Generate Extra Income

By selling covered calls, I receive premiums upfront. This allows me to earn additional income while waiting for PLTR to move higher. Even if the share price trades sideways, I can still benefit from the premium collected.

🛡️ 2️⃣ Provide Some Downside Protection

The premium received helps reduce my effective holding cost. If PLTR experiences a temporary pullback, the premium provides a small financial cushion. However, it does not eliminate the downside risk of owning the shares.

📈 3️⃣ Have a Planned Exit Strategy

I choose a strike price where I am comfortable selling my shares. If PLTR rallies above $180, I may have to sell my shares at the strike price, potentially missing further upside.

🎯 4️⃣ My Plan From Here

I will monitor PLTR’s price movement, market sentiment and option premiums. If the shares remain below my strike price, I can let time decay work in my favour.

For me, investing is not just about waiting for capital gains. It is also about making my existing shares work harder through disciplined options strategies.
