The AI Optics Trade Will Commoditise, But Not All of It

hey everyone, Wonton Investor here. let's talk about the part of the AI trade that everyone's excited about right now, which is optics and power. over the past few months i've been buying into the "plumbing" of AI data centres - optical modules (AAOI, LITE), connectivity chips (MXL), timing chips (SITM) and storage (STX, WDC). the reason is pretty simple. once a data centre has enough GPUs, the limit stops being how smart each chip is and starts being how fast the chips can talk to each other. copper wire runs out of distance and bandwidth, so you have to go optical, and the companies making that "nervous system" become the interesting ones. and this earnings season, every single one of my six names beat and raised. so you'd think i'd be super bullish. and i am on the demand. but i've actu

Memory remains scarce. AI data-centre demand remains enormous. SanDisk reports explosive datacentre growth. Micron itself is producing extraordinary margins. Yet MU falls. So naturally investors are asking: WHAT IS WRONG WITH MICRON? My answer? Less than the stock price suggests. But something HAS changed. Wall Street has moved one level higher in the AI supply chain. SNDK: I’d trim, not chase the beat. SanDisk delivered a strong Q1 FY27: $11.03B revenue and $49.51 adjusted EPS; Q2 guidance is higher. But great results are not automatically a great entry price. The risk is that AI-storage growth and elevated NAND pricing are already priced for near-perfect execution. I’d watch whether data-center demand converts into durable margins, pricing holds as supply responds, and weakness in consumer NAND spreads. Consumer revenue fell 39% year over year—a reminder that not every segment shares the boom. My approach is to take partial profits after a strong run and keep a smaller position only if the thesis still holds. I’d buy a dip only if guidance and pricing remain firm—not just because the chart looks cheaper. A beat can still disappoint when expectations a

“Be greedy when others are fearful, and be fearful when others are greedy.” This timeless investment principle is especially relevant when identifying quality stocks with strong long-term growth potential. When the market is driven by fear and panic, it may create opportunities to accumulate fundamentally strong companies at attractive valuations. Conversely, when euphoria takes over and everyone rushes to buy, it is time to remain cautious, assess valuations, and avoid being swept up by the crowd. The key is to invest in quality, not just cheap prices. Focus on companies with strong fundamentals, sustainable competitive advantages, healthy balance sheets, and the ability to generate consistent earnings and cash flow. Why I Am Holding OCBC Through Earnings (And Laughing Off the Citi Sell Off Noise)

🌟🌟🌟Everyone, deep breaths.  The Singapore market is having a bit of a moment right now, thanks largely to that recent Citi analyst commentary triggering a wave of nervous selling.  But while some are hitting the panic button, I am sitting tight and holding $OCBC Bank(O39.SI)$  straight through its upcoming Q3 2026 earnings report on Friday, November 6 2026. Before this Citi induced dip, OCBC was the absolute crown jewel and top performer of the Singapore market, aggressively testing its 52 week high of SGD 32.57.  One analyst comment does not mean it is time to sell.  Even though the stock took a short term hit, dropping 9.73% in October, OCBC is still up a phenomenal 46.25% year todate. Earnings Night: I Don’t Let One Report Decide My Investment Whenever a company is about to report earnings, I think the real question is not simply whether the stock will go up or down the next day. Nobody knows that with certainty. The more important question is whether I am comfortable with what could happen if the market reacts very differently from what I expect. Personally, I would not automatically sell just because earnings are coming, nor would I blindly hold every position and hope for the best. My decision would depend on why I bought the stock, how much it has already run up, and how much downside I can realistically accept. 1. If I bought for the long term, I would not panic over one night If I invested in a company because I believe its business can grow over the next three to

🟢 Hold, 🔴 Sell, or 🟡 Wait? Why My Earnings Night Strategy relies on Implied Volatility and Asymmetric Risk Whenever earnings season arrives, retail investors often split into two emotional camps: those who gamble on a massive post-earnings gap-up, and those who panic-sell early to avoid a potential crash. However, approaching earnings with a binary “Hold or Sell” mindset treats the market like a casino. For me, navigating earnings night is strictly an exercise in probability, position sizing, and managing Asymmetric Risk. If I had to summarize my core stance, it is: 🟡 Wait for tactical entries, but 🟢 Hold long-term high-conviction compounders—provided position size is controlled. Here is the exact playbook and mental framework I execute during earnings season. 1. The Trap of Binary Thinkin

Hold or Sell? 7 Earnings Reports, 7 Different Risks. Here Is My Playbook.

This is the part of earnings season I love. Within roughly 48 hours, we get results from: Microsoft. Alphabet. Amazon. Intel. Strategy. Coinbase. SanDisk. But I would make a mistake if I treated all seven the same. Some I would be comfortable holding. Some I would deliberately reduce. And for some, I would rather own the stock that reacts to their earnings than gamble on the reporter itself. My rule: The bigger the information gap, the smaller my pre-earnings position. Here is how I am approaching them. 🟢 1. GOOGL: MY FAVOURITE MEGA-CAP ASYMMETRY Alphabet enters tonight's report from a very different position from Microsoft. GOOG has already corrected from roughly $338.50 toward $314-$315. That matters. Expectations have come down. I want three things: Search resilience Google Cloud accele

COIN: The Part 2 I Promised A Year Ago

hey everyone, Wonton Investor here. let's talk about Coinbase again. some of you on here might remember my two earlier $Coinbase Global, Inc.(COIN)$  posts. in December 2024 i pitched it as a Peter Lynch cyclical, a business whose earnings swing with the crypto cycle, so the trick is to buy it when things look dead. i said i'd only buy at a 20% discount to my ~$180 intrinsic value estimate, so under $150. then in mid-2025, after the GENIUS Act passed and the big institutions started building on Coinbase, i wrote that i was doubling down and that COIN had gone from a cyclical buy to a long-term foundational hold. this is the follow-up i promised back then. it's mostly an accountability post. getting lucky, then getting greedy on Libe

🎁 Write & Win|Earnings Season: Hold or Sell?

Whenever a company is about to report, investors face the same question: Earnings tonight—do you hold or sell? Some investors hold with confidence: “I'm in it for the long term. One night won't change my view.” Some trim their positions: “Lock in some gains and sleep better.” Others keep cash ready: “If it drops, I'll buy more!” One earnings report can send a stock soaring—or falling—overnight. So, what's your move? 🟢 Hold: Stay invested and ride through earnings 🔴 Sell: Trim your position and avoid the volatility 🟡 Wait: Stay on the sidelines and decide after earnings 💬 Not sure what to write? This AI and semiconductor correction is exactly the type of market that tests my discipline.
